The Government wants to connect all four metros- Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai with high speed rail networks. The Ahmedabad-Mumbai route, funded and developed with Japanese technology and investment will become part of the Delhi-Mumbai route. The projects are extremely complex and challenging but are relevant for India (despite the high costs) as current train travels take lot of time and existing networks are saturated and not suited fpr high-speed travel. PPP is possible in such projects for station construction and management, on-board entertainment and support services.
